Participation, Privacy, and Content Use Policy
Last Updated: November 20, 2025
This service is provided through Jason Troyer PhD LLC. The service includes (“we,” “us,” or “our”) recording video, audio, and text of individuals sharing memories about their loved ones adding in video or pictures supplied by the individual and sharing newly created videos and images on the social media page of our clients. We are committed to protecting the privacy of the individuals who share stories, memories, and personal information with us.
Voluntary Participation
All individuals who participate in the service do so voluntarily. By submitting videos, photos, audio recordings, or personal stories, participants confirm that:
They are choosing to share this content of their own free will.
They have the legal right to use, share, and grant permission for the materials they provide (including any images, videos, or audio of themselves or others).
They are not violating the rights, privacy, or copyrights of any other individual when they submit their content.
Rights to Submitted Content
Participants retain ownership of their original photos, videos, and personal stories. By voluntarily submitting content, participants grant us—and the funeral home, cemetery, or partner organization using our services—a non-exclusive right to edit, produce, and share the final memorial video as part of the agreed-upon service. This may include posting the completed video on social media pages or websites of the partner organization.
If at any time a participant wishes to request removal of their content from our possession or from our partner’s social media pages, they may contact us, and we will make reasonable efforts to honor that request.
Right to Refuse Submissions
We reserve the right to decline or discontinue the creation of any video at our sole discretion. This includes, but is not limited to, situations where the submitted content:
Contains material that may be interpreted as slanderous, libelous, or defamatory
Includes statements or imagery that could be disruptive, antagonistic, inflammatory, or harmful
Violates the privacy, rights, or dignity of another person
Appears to include copyrighted material without permission
Includes content not appropriate for public sharing on social media
Conflicts with our values of respect, compassion, and community support
If we decline a request, we are not required to provide a detailed explanation, though we may choose to offer general guidance about why the content cannot be used.
We may also request revisions, clarifications, or alternative submissions if we believe certain portions of the content could create legal, ethical, or emotional concerns—particularly given the sensitivity surrounding grief and memorial storytelling.
Editing and Modification of Submitted Content
By voluntarily submitting audio, video, photographs, or written stories, participants grant us the right to edit, adapt, modify, resize, crop, shorten, or otherwise adjust the content as needed to create the final memorial video. This includes changes to:
Length or duration
Formatting, aspect ratio, or size
Audio clarity or music integration
Visual enhancements or removal of unusable segments
Overall structure, flow, or presentation
These adjustments are made solely for the purpose of producing a respectful, high-quality video suitable for public viewing on the social media pages of the funeral home, cemetery, or partner organization. Participants understand that the final edited version may differ from the original materials they submitted.
We do not alter content in a misleading or harmful way; all edits are made in alignment with our values of dignity, accuracy, and compassion.
